Win XP to Win 7 Upgrade?

Any confirmations of people just buying the upgrade disks and being able to install the OS??? Ive heard apparently this is true..im not interested in dropping 300$ for the ultimate edition (no opinions or questions as to why im getting this edition please just stay on topic) but if i could get the ultimate upgrade edition and it installed..now that would be a much better solution.

Anyone care to confirm this?

You can install from the upgrade disk, but it won't be a 'real' upgrade. You can run a clean install using the upgrade disk from XP.

The OP states you can indeed, just buy the upgrade disc, install once without entering the CD key, and then enter the CD key while in the OS, and bingo.

You can get the OEM version for $189.99 at Newegg.
