Hi, i have just downloaded the evaluation of windowx XP x64 pro so that i can try it out on my new system when i get it at xmas, and with the email that i received from ms after requesting the download it gave me a product key to enter, so i was wondering if after the 180 day trial had expired i decided i wanted to purchase it would i be able to change the COA to that of a paid-for edition, using this http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml or would i have to format and reinstall?
Also i know this is probably illegal but surely after the trial has expired wouldn't it be possible to reformat and reinstall, and enter the COA again to restart the trial, or would the COA be cross-referenced with MS so they would be able to detect that?
Thanks,
Lee

i'm fairly certain MS will give you the opertunity to buy a full license at the end of the trail, so all you do is enter a new key, revalidate windows and you're good to go.

Can you keep reinstalling it? Depends if it validates through Microsoft's server or not. If it tells you that you have to go online and have it verified, then no, you cannot just reinstall it like that. Besides, reformatting your drive every 30 days would be a royal PITA. You could always try to keep your documents on a seperate drive, install all your apps and ghost a copy to DVD. Then every 30 days just ghost the drive

Actually it is a 180 day trial, so you get 6 months of it for free! which amazes me slightly!! and even if you did need to have it verified through MSes server surely it would be possible to just go through the download process again then they would give you a new product key :)

Although the idea of getting the operating system for free is illegal, surely this is legal, as you are just registering multiple times for a trial, whihc i am almost posotive it is possible to do.
