Win2000 Pro Back-Up

Trying to get a Win2000 Pro system to back-up and it keeps quitting after 1 hour 10 minutes and some seconds. The message is that the fixed disk is full. I am using a 150g USB Hard Drive and there is only 17g on the computer. I went and completely cleaned the 150 drive off until it only had 256K on it, and still it quit after about the same time. I am just using the back-up program that comes with Windows, what should I try to do. This is for somebody else that knows very little about computers, and will have to do it after this.
Thanks dh

You could possibly try Norton Ghost, this creates a ghost image of your hard drive, I've been using it for a while now with no problems. Maybe you should give that a shot. Let me know if it works.

Did you check to make sure that your back up is going to that particular drive and not your C:/ drive, also check that your PC is reading all 150 gigs of your USB drive.

I put the drive on my computer, W98, and ran a lot of back-ups on it with second copy and it worked. I did get errors when I tried to copy files that Windows was using, could that be the problem with the Win2000? I am tring to run a complete system backup, I have not used the Win2000 back-up before, and not sure what it will back-up and what it won't.
