Win7 installation, would this work?

I was thinking about backing up all my information to a separate partition then formatting the partition that has vista 64bit on it, then install windows 7 64bit, then put all my information on to the windows 7 partition.

I'm pretty sure this would work, but I've never done anything like this before, so I'd like some thoughts from you guys.

Also need a good software to do the backing up for me :D

You don't need any software to backup your pictures and data.

Just stick the install disc in when you're running Vista x64 and run the installer.

Choose Custom Install, click Drive options (advanced), choose your Vista partition, Format, Next.

This will format the partition while backing up all your data into a WINDOWS.OLD folder which you can access after the Win 7 install,
which will contain all of "My Documents" and such.
