Win7 Retail full install CD?

Yes, that is OEM. I don't think you can actually find a full retail box now. Newegg doesn't have them anymore.

John is right, it's hard to find retail copies now. There's one on Amazon for nearly $500 which is a daylight robbery.

But as I said, if you only need to install it on one computer then the OEM version will be fine.

Actually I'm wondering if microsoft has lightened up on their licensing issues. Windows 8 only has OEM licenses now so I would assume they are trying do away with retail licenses. Maybe they don't care that you can reactivate an OEM on another motherboard now???

Probably not. Truth be told, it can be done with Windows 7 (and earlier) licenses too...

Off topic (slightly), but what I don't get is why they've dropped 'boxed' (retail) copies of 8.1, yet you can still buy 'boxed' copies of Office 2013 which don't have any install discs. All it is is a small box with a little product key inside it and a piece of paper telling you where to download Office from. Seems bizarre. And a waste of packaging!

Edit: A couple of weeks ago we had 18 copies of Office Home & Business 2013 sent to house to install on 18 HP desktop machines for clients. We got a whole stack of boxes (see here: http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/q487/vistakid10/Image-1_zpscd5ccddc.jpg), none of them with installation media for Office, of course. Just seemed like such a waste when we could have been emailed 18 Office product keys, but there you go...

If it can run Vista or 7, then it can run 8.1. 8.1 uses less resources than 7 and Vista, so it will run better than both (theoretically).

Hi, I don’t mean to butt in, but I’m also looking to upgrade my Vista to Win7. I noticed that the OEM was only for a clean install and not an upgrade. Is that a problem?
From what I’ve seen, I don’t want anything that even resembles 8 and if MS forces it on me, I’m going to MAC

Yeah just buy the OEM disc and then do a clean install of 7. Back up all your data first though because obviously the clean install means formatting your HDD.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure how the licensing worked. I can't remember what product it was now, but years ago I was trying install something and it shutdown with a notice that it wasn't an upgrade version. I don't remember what I did to solve it, but I may have reformatted the drive or something.

Its really a pain to reformat the drive with so many programs with licensing on it. First is that I have to find all the keys and then some of my programs only allow one computer and when it tries to update I'm met with so much opposition that I don't want to continue.

Pinnacle Studio was one of those programs. I had to replace the drive after an ugly virus devastated my computer and it took a couple of months
to get a new key from them and I think I had to pay them. The second time it happened i decided that I would never ever use Pinnacle again.

Anyway I may just buy a new drive and take my time moving things over.:)
