Windows 10 has strange bugs?

I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few weeks ago. Now I am having some strange goings-on with the Sleep function of Windows 10. For instance, sometimes when I invoke "Sleep", I will find that after awhile, instead of "sleeping", the power has shut down...this happens about 10% of the time. Also, today when I put it to sleep via Win 10 (not the keyboard sleep key), the power light on the tower that flashes to indicate sleep, went out as when the computer was shut off completely, but the cooling fan began to race. I turned the computer back on and selected "Sleep" as per usual (again) and it appeared to function normally that time.

My questions: 1. Is this a problem common to Windows 10? 2. If not, is this indicative of impending failure of my computer (it is fairly old, 5 to 10 years)?

Windows 10 has some odd bugs, and that's one of them. I can't even use the sleep mode on my laptop because it freezes the machine when I try to wake it from sleep. Lockscreen/sleep problems are pretty common in Windows 10 at the moment.

I don't know if that's a common problem on windows 10, but I do know that early adopters of new technology, whether its software or hardware often run into problems. Some like the latest and greatest and others like the tried and tested. Personally I find late adoption is usually easier and cheaper way to go, but I'm grateful to those who faced the problems, so hopefully I don't need to. I will upgrade all my computers to windows 10 just before I need to pay, everything is working fine right now, I'm not in any rush :).

Yeah for the most part the OS is pretty good but there are some irritating bugs in it. I wish Microsoft had released it later and spent more time fixing the bugs. I tested nearly every Technical Preview of 10 and there were some preview builds that were more stable than 10240 ('RTM'). I've got 10576, the latest preview, in a VM and it seems fine so fingers crossed that 'Threshold 2' (the next major release of 10) is perhaps a bit more stable. :)

I got 7, 8 and 8.1 pretty much as soon as they came out too and they all had fewer bugs than 10 does now when they were new.

well yesterday I put my Win10 desktop to sleep and went to work. 12 hours later I tried to wake it up and it would not. I tried to reboot a couple of time by turning off the switch and it still did not work so I finally turned off the power and unplugged it for 30 sec before it finally rebooted.

What are the specs of your computer? You said it's pretty old. Also, I always encourage people to do a clean install or reset of W10 after installing it and activating it to remove any hiccups that might crop up. Most of the time when I hear people having issues with the OS, it's people that haven't done a Reset.
