I just got done installing service pack 1 for Windows 2003 and when I try to start up the computer freezes at the splash screen. My dad says to uninstall the service pack, but I say I need it. Have any of you ever heard of this happening and if you have could you please tell me how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah....I had this problem when I first starting working with Windows Server 2003 on one of the earlier builds. Try booting into the 2K3 installation CD and enter the recovery console. There you can try repairing the 2K3 partition and it should fix the problem, but I can't guarantee anything since the recovery console can be a bit picky on what it is able to fix and not fix . Also, have you tried booting into safemode?

Do you happen to know what build of 2K3 you are using? Glad to see another 2K3 user/admin here on the boards...I thought I was the only one :D.

I'm glad that theres another 2k3 server admin here to help me out. I can boot into safe mode and the build number is 3796 with Sp1 I'm not sure if a Sp changes the build. By the way what do I do in the recovery console to fix the problem. Also could it be possible that my old windows xp installation is interfering with the server.

I fiqured it out. The drivers for the video are screwed up after the sp install. So now I have to fiqure out how to fix it.

If you boot into safe mode you can update the gfx driver with the latest one from the manufacturer, i.e. ATI, nVidia. Since your booting into safe mode you’re forcing Windows to use the standard VGA driver. I know with nVidia the gfx driver for the GeForce series is listed compatible with 2000/XP but I have never had a compatibility problem under 2K3 32bit.

Those drivers will do it to you sometimes :D.
