I recently set up a windows 2003 server. It's only job as of now is to share two folders. One called "music" (containing over 5000 mp3 files), the other "videos". Everything worked wonderfully for about two weeks. I mapped network drives from two of my PCs. When I double-clicked either of them, the folder's contents were displayed immediately. This is good. Now, the "music" folder, with the same amount of stuff in it, is soooooo slow. I double click on the network drive mapped to it and the explorer window freezes for about 15 seconds, then it does the flashlight for about 20 seconds. It is this way with all 3 of my Windows XP Home PCs trying to connect. To me, it's obvious that the problem is server-side. What in the world. This sucks.
The network traffic monitor on the w2003 box goes from 0% to less than 1% when a client is trying to access the "music" share. I'm not sure if that is normal. I have no idea. Thanks.
