windows 7 excel wont close.

Can anybody give any ideas on the problem I am having with closing excel, I have windows 7 home premium. I just started using excel and the truth is I have very little experience with it. I just noticed that it takes forever to close (if at all). Thanks for any help with this.
 
Are you using Excel 2007 or 2003?

Do the following please:

Left Click Start, then right Click "My Computer," then left click "Properties."

Post the Processor and RAM information please. If you can also, post the make and model of your system.
 
Go to Tools, Options, Detect and Repair.

Then type cmd in the start area (windows button)
Right click on command prompt and open it as an administrator
type (with the space) sfc /scannow
let it run
restart
update office with Windows Update
restart
post results
