Windows 7 fail, help?

So I brought home a coworkers laptop. It boots, shows the Toshiba screen and gives you the key for bios, then has black screen with _ for a few seconds then says read error has occurred, press Ctrl alt Del to try again. So I unplugged hard drive and ram and put back and same issue. Then put in my USB windows stick. It loads files AMD stuff but then is a black screen with only cursor. If I load advanced in safe mode it gets to windows setup but you click next and it gets stuck on loading setup.

Help?

I would assume its a bad hard drive. You will need to run a diagnostic on it to determine that. What brand of drive is it?

Thats what I figured. I've had some computers do some strange things due to HDD failure, just never seen this so I thought I would ask.

HDD is a Toshiba brand

Figures its a toshiba, high failure rate.

I would attach the drive to another system and use the windows version, may be easier. Sometimes the toshiba dos version doesn't detect the toshiba hdd.
