Hi, I bought a broken laptop off someone which I found out was a faulty hard drive, I have put in a new hard drive, but obviously the copy of windows was on the broken hard drive, to make matters worse the key on the bottom of the laptop is worn, I can read most of it, but not all of it. Obviously I am not interested in trying to obtain it illegally, but is there any way to get the legitimate copy back on the laptop, I'm sure this is a long shot

Contact the maker of the laptop for recovery CD's. May cost a few bucks though.

Thanks for your help, I went to the Fujitsu website, entered my serial number, and they offered the recovery disk for £15.75, which is quite reasonable considering the extortionate prices Microsoft charge for their operating systems

The reason why it is cheap is because you mostly paid for the licence when you bought the laptop and you can only use those disks on that specific pc :P

I know the reason it is cheap, however, I never paid for the license, I bought the laptop off someone for £30 as they couldn't find anyone who could fix it, and they never asked me first, they were told it wasn't fixable, so for me, the £15 windows is a very good deal, I was annoyed immensely when I paid good money for Vista though a few years ago, it was the biggest load words I shall not repeat on here I have ever used in my life, nothing ever worked properly, it always crashed, it was once responsible for the destruction of one of my keyboards, but thinking about it if I still had the disk and key I wonder if I could get a cheap upgrade, well too late now

I cant see anything wrong with Vista. I used to bad mouth it, but I now use it every day.

Its not that bad. I prefer Vista to W8.

I haven't used it for a long time, so whether they have sorted things out since I used it I don't know, I just remember being Infuriated with it, nothing was supported with it, even the man in the shop when he asked me which operating system I want, I replied, Vista, and he said, you sure? even he had to admit it was terrible and he was selling it, I wish I had listened to him, I just went back to XP which I think was far better, and I used until having more than 3gb memory forced me to upgrade, when I got windows 7, and was pleasantly surprised, I am currently having a look at windows 8, and after I had damned it so much, I decided I would keep an open mind and test it properly, at first I found it frustrating as things are a little different, but in no time at all, I started getting pretty confident with it, and if anything, I would say it feels a little faster, not sure if it's just in my head. I also found a downloadable start menu which is handy
