Windows 7 Homegroup

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but I can't seem to get my pcs connected using Homegroup. I have a desktop computer which is plugged directly into the router (Belkin) which is running windows 7 home. I also have a netbook running windows 7 home using wireless. When I create a homegroup on one pc I do not get the option of joining the group on the other pc. I have tried creating the group on both the laptop and the desktop. I have also tried plugging in the laptop to the router but I still can't see the other pc. I am sure there is a simple fix to this but I am not sure what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

You can't create a homegroup on a netbook, as nearly all use Windows7 starter. You can, however, join one. Set up a homegroup on your desktop (making sure both PCs are ON) by going into start>control panel>Network and Sharing Center>Homegroup and sharing options>Create homegroup.
You'll be given a password for your homegroup comprising of seemingly random letters and symbols. Write this down, then leave the desktop ON, ,and go to your netbook. Do the same steps as above with your netbook, only this time click "join". It shouldn't be grayed out if both computers are ON and it detects the network. Enter the password you've written down. Follow the prompts, and then select what you would like to share (printers, music, videos, files, etc.) check the boxes you want, then click "next" or "OK". You can now (hopefully) access the homegroup network from your netbook.

Make sure both PCs are ON. I made this mistake, and I got frustrated when on my netbook the join button was greyed out, it couldn't detect the homegroup because the other PC in the homegroup was OFF:eek:

Good luck!

You might need to check to see if the network discovery is on, just make sure someone didn't turn it off.
Best wishes.
