i have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (Full) System Builder DVD 1 Pack installed on my new build Hard Drive
http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premi..._1_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1326385109&sr=1-1

it is the system builder version and i already installed it on my Hard Drive. I would like to buy a SSD and install Windows 7 on the SSD. When i bought the system builder disk i had no plans to buy a SSD, but now i want one but dont want to have to buy a new version of windows.

I am reading differing info on if the system builder version can now be installed on a new drive. people are saying yes, some say no...some say you gotta call MS for the activation.

Can anyone tell me so i know for sure?

Also, i was trying to get some tips on how to go about installing windows on the new ssd. should i just unplug the current HD so the SSD becomes drive C: and installed on the SSD?

thanks!

If all your doing is adding a SSD you will not have a problem. The only thing that you change that will throw a flag up to microsoft is a motherboard change.

what about the install itself? I want the ssd to be drive C:
Do i need to uninstall it from the current hard drive 1st?

I called MS to see if they could provide any info and he said uninstall it first...but then he also told me I can install the system builder version on any PC....lol

btw, yes...the same mobo and everything...just a new ssd

Just unplug your current HDD and install it to the SSD. Then when you go to boot after install, plug the other HDD in and set the boot order correctly to boot to the SSD first. Then you can just delete what you don't want on the other drive. You will have to reinstall programs though.

When you install windows, designate the SSD as where to install windows. And make sure the SSD is plugged into the first SATA port.
