Windows 7 questions

If you install 7 on a particular computer, is it going to be married to that motherboard forever? If that mobo dies will you be unable to activate it on a different mobo?

For gaming, would you recommend the 32 or 64 bit version - and why of course. Any reason to go with Pro as opposed to Home Premium?

Thanks.

If you have an OEM license then technically OEM is matched to the motherboard its installed on. If you have the full retail version you can install it on as many different system as you like but it must be uninstalled from the previous system.

Would go 64 bit so you can install more than 4gb of memory. Home premium has a limit of 16gb while professional has a limit of 192gb of memory.

Full retail can be installed on any one machine at a time.

Oem versions of windows 7 or older and all versions of windows 8 fall under microsoft oem rules below.

Generally, an end user can upgrade or replace all of the hardware components on a computer—except the motherboard—and still retain the licence for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created. Microsoft OEM operating system software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the licence of new operating system software is required. If the motherboard is replaced because it is defective, you do not need to acquire a new operating system license for the PC as long as the replacement motherboard is the same make/model or the same manufacturer's replacement/equivalent, as defined by the manufacturer's warranty.

Except the System builders of Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro. that can be transferred to another Computer as long as it is unstalled from the previous machine. It is under the "Personal Use License". http://personaluselicense.windows.com/en-US/default.aspx
And another link to: http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/personal-use-license.aspx

Considering you are asking this question,I can immediately say that you can go with 64-bit of Home Premium.16 GB of RAM limit is a LOT more than you might need.
Don't waste money on Pro or Ultimate. You do not need it unless if you are crazy computer programmer who needs many other things too lol.

I always hated how Microsoft handles these things with licenses lol.
