hi evryone im new to this forum and i got a windows 7 computer and when i shut it down it comes up one buttom force shutdown and another buttom canel and it seys closing background programes when it should shutdown with out that coming up how can i fix it can eny one help

Yo man welcome to the forum!Drug is not allowed here!Hehe I am just kidding.:D

Now to the problem. That message appears because Windows 7 is having difficulties shutting down some of your foreground or background programs and therefore that message appears so you can shutdown your computer on force. However even when that message is showed,Windows 7 is STILL trying to shutdown your programs and then your computer,so try to wait for a while without touching anything when that message appears and see if your computer shuts down...So try to wait for a few minutes...

Cheers!

That's what it's supposed to do. If you don't want to wait on Windows to close all of your programs for you on shutdown, then you should manually exit, close or otherwise terminate all open applications and non-windows based processes before shutting down the computer.

If what you mean is that it hangs on shutdown, then that's another issue. You would have to first find what process is not terminating. You can hit ctrl+alt+delete to bring up the task manager, and look at the applications tab. If that tab is empty, then you should look at the processes tab and look for anything that has high "mem usage" or says "not responding"

I would suggest that you disable all processes from starting up automatically that you do not need.

To do this, go to Start-->Run-->type in 'msconfig' and hit <enter>

In the Startup tab, uncheck everything that you do not need running in the background at startup and click "Apply." Then, in the Services tab, check Hide All Microsoft Services, uncheck everything that you do not need running in the background at startup and click "Apply." Restart the computer.

Be forewarned that you may need certain programs to run at startup, especially display drivers, etc. If you do not feel comfortable removing startup entries on your own, please do the following:

Download the HijackThis executable from here: http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ (executable is on the right).
Run HijackThis! and press the button labeled "Open the Misc Tools Section". Then check both the check boxes next to the "Generate StartupList Log" button and click the button. Click the button to generate the list, save it and upload it as an attachment to your next post, and I or some other forum member will advise you on what to disable.

Hope that answers your question. :D

If you just want to turn off the computer without waiting for Windows to terminate processes, just push in the power button on the front of the case and hold it until the computer turns off. If that doesn't work, just unplug the son of a b!t<h. I DO NOT recommend either of these methods, but sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do. ;)

it should just go off with out that coming up

No. It shouldn't. That's what a "shutdown" is - it terminates all of the processes that are still running to prevent data loss before it cuts off power to the mobo and peripherals.

If you don't want to see that message, then I suggest you follow the steps in my previous post.

:good:

Exactly!

When Windows 7 is shutting down,RIGHT BEFORE it shuts down,it is CLOSING ALL YOUR PROGRAMS and that MESSAGE APPEARS during the time when Windows 7 is shutting down your programs RIGHT BEFORE the actual shut down.So all you have to do is to wait.If Windows 7 still hangs at the same point for a long time, then take a look in the Task Manager WHICH program is not shutting down.

<--- bangs head on keyboard repeatedly

Please, try the suggestions in my previous post. You have a process that is not terminating when Windows shuts down. Thus, Shut Down is "hung-up" waiting to terminate that process

Also, you should get all updates for your computer, unless you know of one that will cause conflict with one of your programs.

:D

Hey All,

I also never used Windows 7 OS but I also want to install it soon. I just need your suggestion. I am already using Windows XP (NTFS) Os system in the PC so it would be right to use another OS as Windows 7 ?

Please let me know your thoughs.

Thanks,
