Apparently Microsoft are going to let people pre-order windows 7...and us europeans can get hold of a copy of Home premium for £49.99...but theres a catch (Suprise suprise),Its a limited offer!

I bet it will be something stupid like the first 100 orders.

For once, small congratulations are in order for Microsoft. This week the software giant announced its European pricing for Windows 7, which launches in October. Those who want to part with some cash up-front and pre-order from 15 July can get the Home Premium version for just £49.99 or the Professional version for £99.99. Microsoft says that this will be a 'limited' offer, out with no indication of how limited.

When the operating system launches, the full retail prices will be £149.99 and £219.99 respectively, which isn't cheap, but still better than Vista's pricing. Hopefully, OEM pricing for the DIY user will be even more attractive. But given the still-parlous state of shoppers' wallets, a sub-£100 price point for Home Premium would have been much more welcome.
It's also offering a free upgrade for those buying a new PC before October, but given the disastrous failure of the Vista upgrade voucher scheme we hope Microsoft has thought it through a bit more carefully this time

Anyone agree with me that the full price they will charge there after of £149 is just a ripoff again?

I do like 7,But im starting to loose faith in Microsoft.....theyre getting too greedy.

Yeah I started to feel this way when I saw 7 damn versions of Vista and then not have it priced fair. I mean home basic Vista is realistically worth $50 or less. Ultimate probably worth $200. Their pricing is outrageous and their OS is mediocre at best.

Meh, it's not like I pay for software anyway.

oy, you can't say that in the forum, i mean, i always pay for all of my software , but if i didn't, i wouldn't say it here :P

What is the pointin getting it when it is just slimmed down vista?, would it not be better to just stick with Vista and keep your 50 quid?

Windows 7 is still not worth £149 imo....the half price deal they are doing is more like a decent price it should be stuck at.....£49

And they wonder why people continue to pirate their software.

The Cost

That is true a lot of people download it because its so expensive for what it is and microsoft make a lot of money from oem sales with computers like dell, I think if it was cheaper people would be more likely to buy and not download and wouldnt mind paying for the feeling of a nice genuine copy :)

Now this sucks big time...
The pre-order price of Windows 7 Home Premium is a far more reasonable £49.99 while the Professional is £99.99. Orders are limited to 25 copies per customer.

25 per customer!!!!! You just watch...get some greedy git buy 25 copys, wait until the deals over and sell them on and make a profit,Leaving those who wanted a copy at £49.99 not been able to have purchased a copy because microsoft reached their limit they are going to give out on the deal

way to go microsoft....it should be 1 copy per customer only!
