Windows 7 Upgrade kit question

Hey guys my friend bought a new HP laptop and he is eligible to get Windows 7 Upgrade Kit. He asked me to find out is it possible to do a clean install of Windows 7 with the Windows 7 Upgrade Kit he is getting or you have to have a previous version like Vista installed in order to do it? Thanks...

Note: This is some program that HP offered for people who buy computers from them and if they are eligible they can get a free Windows 7 Upgrade.

Yes, you can install a full version from an upgrade disc.

1) Boot from the upgrade disc

2) when prompted to enter your install key, don't.

3) when windows is installed, activate it. at that point you will enter your cd key. if you cannot activate online you will have to do it over the phone. (use the toll free number)
