I tried formatting my recovery partition to give me a bit more space and then tried merging it to the main partition so i only had one partition and now windows 7 won't boot. I've installed a new windows so i now have a clean install that boots fine and the original one that won't boot any suggestions on getting the original to boot ? as it appears all the files are still there and nothings been removed.

you probably killed your boot record doing what you did, pop in the 7 cd and hit repair, do it until after the repairs are complete windows boots successfully.

I was hoping I would be able to sOlve the problem without discs as I dont have any. If I borrow a disk or purchase a new copy of windows will it still repair it ?

as long as the cd is the same type of installation as the one you used previously i think it should work...maybe even if it isnt, just needs to restore the active partition, which should have been the system reserved thats hidden to the filesystem
