Windows 8.1 32 bit?

I bought a Toshiba Pentium about 5 years ago, running on Windows 7 and the machine was 64 bit.

I recently bought an Asus X250TA, in Windows 8.1, but it said it is 32 bit.

Is the machine ( newer than the Toshiba) capable for 64? Why the mfg loaded the 32 bit version? Is it because of the limited RAM (2gb) or storage (32gb ECCM)?

What's the disadvantage comparing to 64 bit system?

Probably based on the 2 GiB of RAM.

You wouldn't really gain much unless you needed to use 64-bit only software. Most 32 bit software uses more memory in a 64-bit environment anyway.

The only advantage of a 64-bit system for most people is the ability to access more than 3.7G of RAM. In systems with less than 4G of RAM, there's no reason to run 64-bit.
