Windows 8.1 hangs on splash screen

Hey everybody, i am new here, so i thought i woul start off with a question.

My girl her asus laptop has windows 8 installed. It is brand new, ran smooth for 3 weeks, but then it kept freezing on the splash screen after logging on to the pc. We did this clean p thing, which is basically like system restore but it desnt delete all the pics etc... .
It works for now again, yet my question is : what happened? Could it be because she downloaded 2 free apps from the Store tab? That is the only thing she changed in those 3 weeks.

Are you sure she has not downloaded anything else? Could be infection but I am not sure. If you are wanting to do a restore you don't need a specific software for that as it is built into Windows 8.

Open the side charm and click on setting > Change PC settings > Update and Recovery > Recovery. From there you will have three options and pick one that is what you want to do.
