Windows 8.1 - No network when booted up for the first time (occasionally)

My father and I have been having a few problems with Windows 8.1 and network connectivity. 9 times out of 10 when we boot our machines up we will not be able to connect to the internet at all, but if we reboot our machines then it works perfectly.

The issue isn't with our router because we have several other machines in the house (four running Windows 8.1 and one running Windows 7) that do not have this problem.

Dad's been having this problem for 6 months apparently and I've been having it for a week or two. It can be a bit annoying.

We don't have the same motherboards - I have an ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 and he has a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H.

Both of our machines are fully updated and we both connect to the internet via cable. We both have Hyper-V on our machines - could that be why?

Looking on Google I couldn't find anything, but if anybody here knows a solution let me know please. :)

All that and you still didn't give the most important details. Lol.

Does the network connection icon load in your sys tray? Does it say limited or no connection? Still can be a router issue especially since it's happening with 2 different computers wired to the router. Ports can fail.

Yes it does but it has a red cross in it.

Then it's not detecting a connection. Next time it happens, check device manager to make sure the lan port shows up. The next thing to troubleshoot would be the router. Try different ports to see if it still happens. Replace router if so.

Cheers John will do. Thanks!

As expected, it is showing up in DM but with a warning symbol - so the router is the next thing to look at?

No. Id be updating intel software (e.g. chipset) and mobo BIOS. That error, has no knowledge of the router. That is local machine. Also, unless you use them, I would disable any other network adaptor in the BIOS as well.
