Windows 8.1 update

I posted this before but I never solved my problem. The problem is that when I update my computer to windows 8.1 it restarts and there is no video (but the computer works fine, no beep codes etc...) and it does nothing. I have to then manually restart it and it automatically restores itself back to windows 8. Last time I posted this problem SLI was the suspect but this time I disabled it and it still doesn't want to go through with the update. Any ideas? This problem is driving me mad...

So is this the situation where you couldn't install it on a gtx250, but a 8400 worked?

Do you have another GPU you can use?

I do have another gpu, in fact quite a few:
X1950XT
Gts250
X300
Hd4350

The problem occurs in the machine with two 480s. I think it's a different issue than the one I faced before. It just got done restoring back to windows 8 and it gave me this error code:
0xC1900101 - 0x2000C. I was thinking about removing the video card drivers for the update, but first I have to make sure, is that safe?

Remove the gpu drivers using the standard add and remove function in Windows 8. Clean the NVidia and ATi drivers using driversweeper (avalaible at cnet).

Remove any classic shell start button software or similar.

Shut down.

Remove both 4880s and install the HD4350 and install Windows 8.1.

Once done, uninstall the drivers as per before (driversweeper etc).

Shutdown

Install the 480s and start up, install the NVidia driver and restart.

Sounds like a lot of work, I'll do it as soon as I can and update you on what happens.

So far it seems to be working, the update went through, now I just need to put my 480s back in and install the drivers. I just remembered that when I had my 480s and windows 8 the screen would be black for the first few seconds of boot and then it would jump straight to the login screen. I think that's what was happening with windows 8.1, it would ask me to accept the license terms but the screen would be black so I couldn't see what was going on.

So, regarding your 480s and SLI, when you say you 'disabled SLI', I assume you mean you removed one card so you were just running on one 480 for the 8.1 install?

Yes but I still had no video, there probably was a simple solution but I being very impatient just went the hard way suggested by okey. Now everything is working.

Its not the hard way, its simply the way. You use known working hardware to install the OS, then update the hardware post installation. The issue is the classic shell installation, plus driver conflicts.
