Windows 8 and XP

Why wont you network?!

Hi.... so anyway... I have a few computers, but recently upgrading to Windows 8, I have encountered a proplem... Mundo Problemo. I network all the machines the same way, but Windows 8 will recognise all the machines, but all the other machines can not access or read the windows 8. They are all on the same work group, the ones that can be seen are fully accessible... so what do I do?

What XP sees:

This is not just a normal network issue!

Its all allowed through the firewall!

Right... So I have came to the conclusion that the problem lies within Windows 8. So I have extracted the Windows 7 files from Windows.Old directories (since it was an upgrade) but the other files wont delete so half the system is corrupted. I have backed up around 9gb of stuff including drives and school work, but now I have to reformat the entire system. Wish me luck...

I need networking to work so that all my other pcs can run through a MAC bridge.

Oh Well... its working now... on Windows 7. Dont worry.

It uses NTFS. It upgraded from 7.

According to what Iv been reading, Windows 8 does not use NTFS. Which is why XP will not see it. XP does not know what it is.

Windows 7 is still a current OS and has probably been updated to be able to read an ReFS system. XP has not been updated since 2009.

So why can Vista and 7 Starter not read it?

Because it is a different file system..... I said 7 has "probably" been updated to be able to read it, since you said you can upgrade from 7 to 8 right? I assume you mean within windows 7 you can install 8?

Windows 8 CP is NTFS. and the link says it all.
In Windows 8, ReFS will be introduced only as part of Windows Server 8, which is the same approach we have used for each and every file system introduction.

It will be windows 9 or later before it reaches the consumer use.

It being a different file system is the only reason I can think of that XP or 7 wont read the installation. And I did read a few sites where it mentions server only but other sites dont mention anything about it being server only they just say "Windows 8".

But Windows 8 has not been released yet officially right?

Also, Im not sure what that link is talking about. Since it says that they always introduce a file system with server only first. When I dont think that is true. According to wiki, NTFS was introduced in the early 90s on Windows NT 3.1. Doesnt say it was a server OS. I actually had an old PC that was given to me a few years back that had Windows 3.1 on it, so Im sure it was not server only.

I had to destroy the entire operating system, using the windows.old folder from the upgrade to reset it, and half the files were corrupted, so I had to back my school work up, then reinstall windows from scratch.. Woah Behold. Its on the network.
