Windows 8 - without the tiles?

I thought I read on one of these post, that Windows 8 can be adapted to function as a traditional (i.e., Windows 7 or earlier) desktop, you know, with the "start" button and such.

For us old fogies out there, is there any truth to that? If that's so, that might sway me to invest in Windows 8. Can anyone shed light on this query?

You can install a 3rd party app to get a start menu, but there's no getting rid of the tiles.

Download "Classic Shell": http://www.classicshell.net/
It is a free third party start button.
When you set it up, you can choose to boot the regular way like windows 7 or you can boot it using the UI "Tiles" menu.
