What is the newest version of DirectX that will work with Windows 98 (first edition) This is because I'm gonna give my AGP (4X) 32MB GeForce 2 MX 100/200 to my friend (I'm using DirectX9c right now (I'm gettin' an upgrade to a 64MB card). I have the NVidia Windows 98 drivers from NVidia.com. All help is acknowledged and appreciated due to the fact that I watch the forums closely.

Higher DirectX= games fine?

Will running games made for DirectX8.1 be better with 9.0c? Or, will the 3-D games not work? (Standard Ferrari Racing games, etc.)

They'll work just fine. Although your not going to notice any diff. in the games then if they where running on direct X8.

Microsoft DirectX Downloads
Get the latest version of Microsoft DirectX® and find other important DirectX updates for your version of Windows.

• Get DirectX 9.0c Now

For Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, this release of DirectX offers updated graphics, faster frame rates, and support for massively multiplayer games.

That's copy pasted from microsofts website and it doesn't say anything about 98SE so I would assume that it's fine with first edition or second. I always say though It doesnt hurt to try! hehehe. I would imageing that if it would not work then you'd get an error or notice of some sort with the installer but beings things dont work the way they should you should always be prepared for recovery :-)...

Wont make a difference. Games "made for" refers to hardware accel.
