Ok, so I'm installing windows 98 on an older computer. I have formatted the HD and I started to install windows 98 on my computer, but it come up with this message "Setup is no going to perform a routine check on your system" I hit enter to continue, but the only thing which happens is a cursor comes up and starts to blink. It's been doing this for a good 10-15 minutes, is the system being checked right now or has the installation process froze?

Thanks for all your help!

Did you fdisk and format. Type "fdisk" in the dos prompt. After your done with fdisk, restart the computer and type "Format C:".

Well after about 30 minutes of blinking I shut it off and have not messed with it since.

Actually I used a cd, which I found on the Maxtor website, which formats and gets the drive ready for installation. I'm not sure if this is the same as fdisk or not?
I will try running fdisk on the drive and following your instructions.

wll when you put in the CD it should autmatically format, right? i know when i installed 2000, it did.

I think you have to run fdisk on the drive, before windows will recognize the drive for installation. Before I was trying to get the windows 98 cd to install, but the drive was not being recognized. So I think it will need be formatted before you start the install.
