Windows 98 & Modem Drivers

I have this old computer and I did a reinstall of Windows 98 (because the specs arent good enough for xp and that is what was originally installed on it) and everything went well. I got it back up and running, the only problem I have now is, I still want to use it for dial up internet access (as we cant get high speed) but when I go to dial up, it says:

Could no detect modem. It may be in use, turned off, or not installed properly.

Any ideas on how I could fix this and get it working again?

I've looked, it hardly seems like there is anything at all to go by.

Try this to see if it tells you, other than opening it up and reading the chip

I also have a laptop with the same problem, and I cant really tell or take it apart either.... I will try that and see if it works.
