Windows 98 to XP

I hope this is the right board. O.k. My main computer is a windows xp. My grandma gave me her old windows 98. They are both Compaq brand computers. I still have the installation cd's for my XP computer. I was wondering if there was anyway that I could install XP on my other computer with those cd's or if a windows 98 computer is too old for this. I would try but it reformats the computer and if it dosen't work then the computer may be ruined. So I was wondering if anyone has done this before and if they have I could use some help. If you need the technical stuff just ask and I will tell it to you.
Thanks for the help,

also do you plan to continue running XP on the other computer?

When you install XP on the other system, activation will recognize a different hardware profile and you will have to call Microsoft to tell them that you are no longer using the install on the old system. It doesn't matter if you are or not, but you won't be able to update the old machine as windows update verifies windows on every install

I was going to run a game on it, but it didn't meet the requirements. I think it is the graphics card. How can I tell what kind of graphics card this computer has?

when you look at the back of your computer is the monitor pluged in a add on card or is it real close to like the usb and keyboard plugs(onboard)
