Windows 98

-->Do you log on during start up?If so click cancel to log on instead of using your password. If you dont get to log on during startup, click "Start" and see if you have an option to log off.If you do (and you probably do),log off and then press cancel. This bypasses any restrictions your log on may have.Give it a try...

HAAAhahahahahaha! I forgot how "secure" win98 was. Good ol' 'cancel' trick :P

Still having problems...

I tried the cancel at log on screen and I changed my network to client for microsoft. Neither worked.

I am trying to install software that is compatible with Win98 SE. I keep getting the error message cant install ikernel.exe for the install shield. Reads that I cant copy the file to program files/common files/engine/6/intel32 something like that. I have gone through every folder and made it shared. Tried copying the install CD onto my desktop and try that way, same error. Tried copying the ikernel.exe file directly to the install path folder, same error.

Today I talked to a guy that worked on my computer before about Re-installing WinXP for me. He offered to do it for $80 USD. I can simply buy a full version off Ebay for around $40 USD. Still debating though. I am planning on just buying a newer computer in the next six weeks or so. I cant justify spending anymore money on the computer I already have if I am about to upgrade. Its still annoying to sit around bored without an efficient PC at home.

Vista?

I heard that, like with vista and its annoying widgets! Like the notepad , pictures , and clock! ( why do i need two clocks?) just wasting my ram!

Anyone have any suggestions?

You dont know anyone else with a Windows XP install disk? You wouldn't be doing anything illegal, so long as you use your own key that is stickered to your comp. I had the same problem and just went into a local PC repair shop and they made me a copy of XP for free. It's worth a shot...
