Windows 98

Some complications...
1) If the system originally runs Windows 98, then it probably isn't really good enough to run XP efficiently enough unless you have upgraded it. Care to share the specs?
and
2) Depends on what program..some programs work on Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and some only work on 2000/XP or just XP or even just Windows 98.

Ok, some time ago i had a compaq presario 1692 and it had win 98 originaly on it, it had a 450MHz Processor 128MB ram and a 4gig hdd not the best laptop thats for shore But it did the job.
I put win xp on it and it worked cool but it was soooooooo sooooooooo much slower than before and i had like 1 gig on hdd space(can't remember but it wasn't much somthing like that.)
I ended up going back to 98 it was much better.
I know this isn't what you want to here but i would stay with 98.

Oh and the hotkeys didn't work with xp and i couldn't find a driver.

Yeah, that's a perfect suggestion. Win2k is still supported by many and runs a lot faster than WinXP.Flipper said:

But Windows 98 is a lot more stable then 2000. It's much less buggy, although im sure some people would want to argue.
I would not pay money for 2000 just to jump from 98 to 2k, but that's just my opinion...
Windows XP is actually said to be one of the best and most stable OS's (operating system, lol just in case) availiable for a PC. The only problem with XP is it is a ram hog. It inhales the stuff. I would not install xp onto anything with less then 512 megs of ram.

actually Win2k is much, much more stable than Win98. Do you recall the blue screen of death? Win2k is built on NT stability and is also the most popular OS in the world. Win98 is also no longer supported by Microsoft themselves.ICANSEEYOU7687 said:
