"Windows cannot find..." start-up annoyance

A family member recently caught a fairly minor virus, but it did almost take over the computer. I'm somewhat experienced with computers and was able to remove the virus, with the help of MalwareBytes and Super Anti-Spyware, but now whenever i restart the computer i get two messages:

1. "Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\msauemvb.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and then click Search." with an OK button.

And after I click OK...

2."Could not load or run 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\msauemvb.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry." With another OK button.

After I hit the second OK button, it disappears, yet the computer still seems to runs as good as ever, any ideas?

what you need to do is search the registry for all instances of the file windows is asking for...and delete it. The AV deleted the actual file, what invokes the file is still in the registry. You know about the registry and deleting the wrong item can have dire consequences.

Either malwarebytes should catch it or he can use msconfig utility to stop windows from trying to load the nonexistent file. No need to go digging about the registry.

Download CCleaner and run the registry tool. That should take care of the errors on startup. Much easier than removing it from the registry manually.
