Windows could not connect to an event service

On logging on to my net book, the welcome screen hangs for five minutes or so (it still animates) but then when it logs on, I get a balloon notification telling me that "A Windows Service failed to connect: Windows could not connect to an event logging service".

- The Wireless adapter fails to start also, when I ask it to diagnose, it tells me: that the event log service is unavailable.

- I try to enter Event Logger through administrative tools and I get: Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.

- I go into services and find Windows Event Log Service. It tells me that it has stopped. I tell it to start and I get "Services: Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 1747: The authentication service is unknown."

I have had this problem before, but I had to go to school. Mum said she tried to run the net book again while I was out, and she said it started Start up Repair. Once it had obviously done this, it worked again for a few weeks.

Any ideas what it could be? I have got all of her photos off of it, and I can just run a destructive recovery, but all the same, it would be nice to know what is wrong with it.

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.

3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:

sfc /scannow
 
So are you saying everything works now or no? sfc /scannnow searches for corrupt or missing system files. When you have an issue with a service that means something is corrupt. Have you been disabling services to make the system quicker?
 
If it still happens after a factory reset then I would assume its an issue with the recovery program.
