windows could not load installer....

I searched all over the net and I found several people coming with this error. Most people are blaming this on the hardware but I dont think its the hardware. I first got the error when I plugged in my sandisk thumbdrive. in this case it said windows could not load installer for volume(which is the thumbrdrive)

I am in the middle of redoing windows xp pro. and I remember before I redid windows it knew that it was sandisk not just a generic volume.

anyways now i get this error when windows has to touch any drivers. for example i was installing daemon tools and it gave me a scsi controller error,(in the same place that volume was in the error)

At startup, hold F8, or just press it when it tells you to> Choose "Boot with last known settings that worked" at the boot options menu>Cross your fingers

For windows XP

Windows Me and lower:
Hold "CTRL" at startup and boot in safe mode and try to reinstall the driver. Also, you could just try to reinstall the driver in normal mode.

Just so you know, if you can use you CD-ROM or DVD drive, your computer is working fine, but there are some faulty drivers the *might* need to be reinstalled.
Sadly, I can't help much since this (amazingly) hasn't happened to me. Hope it works again.
