Windows Home network password?

So I have a desktop windows vista wireless connection and I’m trying to access public files on a Windows 7 computer on the same home network. It keeps asking for a password, but I just don’t know what password it’s asking me for.

It’s already connected to the internet through the network and can see the other computer so why does it need a password for public shared files on the same home network?

Anyway I need some help with this because there are just too many passwords and I can’t remember what goes to what. Is it asking for a router password or the password of the Win 7 computer?

Turn off password protected sharing in Advanced Sharing Settings on the other computer.

Thanks, so if I wanted to have a password where does it ask me for one?

I don’t remember making this setting and it must have been a default setting, but is there a default password?

Usually it's the username and password of any user on the target computer.

Disabling password protected sharing makes life easier unless you really need it.
