So I loaded WHS2011 on my server build to test out some of its features and now i am seriously considering why in the world I bought this...

Whats the point if im just using this as a media server for me and my fiancee's devices? I thought it would be better for or easier to share folders and whatnot but I dont see any differences between this and windows 7 file sharing/automatic backups. Maybe im missing something, but im pretty sure im going to chock this one up to a learning experience and load up Ubuntu and call it a server...

Yes but theres no native GUI and I would really like to have a GUI. Also, I dont think you can use it via wireless adapter.

Then you can just install your favorite windowmanager via the terminal. If you like Gnome for instance, it would be:
sudo apt-get install gnome

everything can pretty much be configured how you need it, including wireless. It just has a lot less bloat then the standard ubuntu distro.

I guess my main concern is whether or not that bloat slows down transfer speeds or just eats hard drive space. Also it seems like a pain to configure from another computer, I dunno I guess I just need today with it some. I definitely do not dig windows server though it is way to clunky and stupid. Not top mention they took away the hard drive pooling! I want to try linux mce again as well.

Damn I love linux so much! :D
