Windows Installer not working

hey guys i wanted to install the steam engine in order to play some games on my laptop except everytime i open the installer an error message pops up saying ....

" the instruction at "xxxxxxxx" referenced memory at "xxxxxxxxx". the memory could not be "read". "
click on ok to terminate the program
click on cancel to debug the program

what is wrong with my computer??
 
Is Steam the only application not working? Or there are more?
The installer may be corrupted. Get the latest version from steampowered.com
 
hey i tried getting the latest version from steampowered.com but its still the same error message...i also tried to update my windows installer and again the same thing...i've tried everything i can think of...plz can anyone help me solve the error message?
 
Try contacting Valve since it is their product and ask them if there is any fix, it's their product and they should know a fix.

And you didn't asked to my question: is the steam installer the only one not working? Or there are other not working?
 
haha sry bout missing the second question but i've been getting that error for other things...not really the installer but sometimes...only occasionally when i try to stand by my computer or turn it off...the same error message pops up but the code in the "xxxxxxxxxx" is different everytime....so i'ono i'm pretty sure there is nothin wrong with the steam installer...more like my laptop is a piece of crap cuz its a dell...lol
