Windows & Linux

Building a Desktop, plan to use two (2) operating systems, Windows XP & Linux. Question, which is the best approach: two HDD'S, or one HDD with two partitions?

Either is fine. The GRUB loader will pick up your windows boot files either way. I would install Windows first then Linux. I am not 100% on it but I think that might mess with the way that GRUB works.

two hard drives -- aparteid when it comes to ntfs! plus better performance in the long term when you decide to go strictly linux; adapatability is increased, as well. Further -- suggest go with two 7200rpm no bigger than 750GB.

depends on what you doing, but two HDD's is always a safer bet encase you have serious problems on either OS. Install windows first, otherwise you'll mess up GRUB and you'll have to recover it using a rescue disk before everything will work properly.
