I hate gmail, if you want a good serice pay 5$ a month, and 8$ a year, and get your own domain and hosting for it, and set up e-mail though it with pop3 and plenty of space with no sending reviving limits nor ads. g-mail is slow as reviving mail(not downloading the message, but when e-mail is sent to it, it sometimes takes up to 15mintes before you can see it, i just says your inbox is empty. for 5$ a month you can have it come in like 5 seconds like i do. plus i have 5gb of web storage if i want to use it too. i just use it to tranfer files from one pc to another, dont know any web dev to do anythig cool with it.

Can't complain about FREE stuff, its FREE.
 
I'm using Windows Live Mail on both my email accounts. I must say it's a very nice experience!
