Windows Live messenger problem

Hi I am using Windows Live messenger for my chatting and I just noticed something today. When I sign in instead of seeing the contacts display name I see their name as it looks in my e-mail. An example would be lets say the name of my contact in my e-mail is joe, I would also see that on msn. And I know that is not his display name. Please could someone help me and also one more thing. I even went to contacts->view contacts by->display name. And that doesn't work. What I think it is there is something worng with the way my email is configured. The email client I am using is the windows live mail beta. I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Thank you

i've had problems that i couldn't find a logical explanation for with Windows Live messenger
sometimes i sign in and i find no contacts at all
and my Personal messages disappears everytime i sign out
and some other stuff not worth mentioning ...
end of story... i switched back to MSN Messenger 7.5

Really, this all seems so odd. I've used WLM for a few months now (since beta), and have yet to have any problems with it. I actually prefer it to MSN 7.5. Oh well.

Me too

Yeah it's weird with live messenger. My contacts at home arent as it shoud be like at work.My display name is patrick and my contact say it's not patrick it's still the old one which i was "firefox".
Also my personal message doesn't display on my contact pc.

all this seems weird.

Ya I know since the beta version and now since there is a final version is out everything was fine until yesterday. I find that very strange. Maybe there is some bugs in it still or something.

yea ... believe it or not the beta version was fine with me except for the lagging
ever since i got the final version i started to have problems

Come to think of it....

When I add people to my list, and then open their name, it says they're always not on my allow list. So then I click the little link to make them on it, then it changes they're not on my contact list. The link for that never gets them on my contact list.

I will seriously be sitting there, and I will see someone who's in the offline column, (really online and not invisible), shoot me a message. It gets kind of annoying after a while.

I just figured out what my problem was. It turns out I added a nickname for my contacts. And the strange thing was I did it through my e-mail and usually when you do it in your e-mail it is just supposted to be like that in your e-mail not in your msn. But whatever at least I fixed it.
