Windows Live Messenger safety

Hi all, I have a question I have not been able to find the answer for on the internet. How safe is it to leave MSN messenger logged in on your computer 24/7? Is there anything I should do to make sure my computer is safe while I leave it that way? Thanks.
 
Typically the only exploits and vunerabilities messenger has is when you share information with people you don't know or accept files from people you don't know. As long as you don't do that you don't really have anything to worry about.
