Windows Live Messenger

Well I'm hoping someone can help with with this because my wife is driving me nuts. I need to know how to uninstall messenger so my wife can install a different version, (I don't know why apparently the other one is better). I have followed instructions on a web page on how to get rid of it but the bastard thing is so stubborn I just cant get rid of it. I uninstalled it from the add/remove tab, then I removed it from windows components, but it still pops up every time I start windows it's driving me insane lol. Can someone tell me how to get rid of this pesky problem?

ya might be better not to uninstall. just turn it off. Ive tried running msconfig then startup tab. unchecking messenger service. always come back on. you could try that. the way i fixed it is goto spinrite gibson
