Windows Media Center (For Xbox 360 purposes)?

I would like to get streaming video to my Xbox 360. I have Windows XP Home Edition, but would prefer not to have to switch my OS to Windows ME, the operating system which has Windows Media Center, the program needed to network video files between my comp and the Xbox 360. Is there a way to get Windows Media Center on my current OS (XP Home, 2002, SP2)? Help appreciated, thanks!

With an XBox 360 you must add some software to your computer before you are able to do this. I have put the link below, the software is Windows Media Connect 2.0. This is the only way to be able to do this with Home, otherwise you would have to upgrade to Media Centre.

You just have to make sure you setup everything else as well, ie enableing DCHP on your router to allow access, ie everything is explained in the setup guides.

Yeah I already set up Windows Media Connect and successfully got audio and photos to stream to the Xbox 360. I know I need Windows Media Center to get streaming video, and my question is do I absolutely HAVE to upgrade my entire OS or is there a way to somehow run Windows Media Center on XP Home without having to install a new OS?

No not that i am aware of that being possible.

You should be able to support streaming of movies and videos via media connect, however they have to be in the correct format. Media Center Extender in the Xbox 360 only supports playback of DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and WMV video, the same as it will be with media centre version of windows. Have a look at this link, may give you an idea of the software that may let you convert you avi etc to a format the xbox can understand.
