windows media center taking over control of pc

its a windows 7 home premium 32 bit O/S its an upgrade from vista and the problem is everytime i start up the computer and loads windows, windopws media player just starts up also it pops up every now and again by itself not only that some programs lets say i open IE it opens instead WMC and the icon has changed from the blue e sign to the WMC icon

ive tried to open msconfig but cant as it open WMC instead so basically every program i try to open it opens up WMC instead

do you think its a virus or shall i just do a system restore
 
You can try a System restore but as Windows automatically saves restore points there is a good chance it has saved the malware, so you could end up restoring it again.
As described in the "Security" section, run Malwarebytes and post a Hijackthis log.
 
i cant do none of the above you say

system restore - its does it but when it finishes it says due to an error system restore hasnt changed sytem files or data

and mailware or for any program i open for that matter it just open up WMC all the time
