Windows media player 10 trouble

I currently have Media Player 11. It won't sync to my new phone so I would like to get media player 10. When the files are getting extracted, a window pops up and say "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site." I don't know why it would say that. I thought I had version 10 before I switched to 11, but it might have been version 9. Could anyone help me with this problem?

Weird.The error i got was "you already have the latest version of Media Player..setup will abort blah blah.."

despite many hours searching on google nothing work.Some say to "tick show updates" in add/remove progz and remove the updates then followed by the player itself.Mine never worked out.
The only thing i did that fix it was repair windows.It brings back WMP9 so from there you can put 10

i'm 100% sure repair will work if not try these
