Windows Media Player-videos keep freezing

I am experiencing a problem with Windows Media Player. When I view video clips they never seem to run smooth. Motion freezes, starts, then freezes again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My O/S is Windows Vista by the way.

Where are the videos coming from? Are they streaming over the internet, stored on a computer on your local network, or are they stored on the local computer?

What graphics card do you have? Also what format are the vids? If you ask me Windows Media Player is kinda bloated when it comes to Vids. Give VLC a try. It's free and works great.

OK I downloaded VLC, but it does not seem to connect when I try to view a video (one that is streaming over the internet). I get a message "IE cannot display the webpage) Do I have to do something to make VLC my default video player?
