Windows Media Player won't play anything!

Ok. I have some files that require DivX to play (a codec). When it expires, I went to regedit and found all divx and 3ivx files(the program with divx) and deleted them. It's worked before and let me reinstall it after 30 days. This time however, WMP won't play anything. I get an error message about an unknown error and when I click more information it gives me a link to here and says: Error ID = 0xC00D11CD, Condition ID = 0x00000000.
Can anyone help?

Codec Pack

VLC Player
try these two things.
the first is a codec pack, and should have all the codecs you could ever need :)

the second is a video player which i have recently started using and prefer it to WMP

hope this helps

Well it still doesn't work. When I try to play anything in Windows Media Player I tell it to play an item but it just turns orange and has the exclamation mark (!) to the left. I downloaded the codec pack but still nothing. What can I do to fix it? Also, I tried VLC and it works but I still want Windows Media Player to work. Should I uninstall it then reinstall it?

EDIT: Also, in case VLC is the only media player to work, how can I make it the default player? I went to default things and it didn't appear. Only quicktime and WMP. Thanks! :)

to make it the default player, right click one of the media files, go to open with, the click choose program. then select VLC player, and at the bottom check the tick box "always use this program for this type of file" or it says something like that.

you could also down this program. then run it, drag and drop the vidoe file in, and it should telly oiu about it, like the name of the codecs it needs.

Thanks! I got WMP to work but I'm still working on playing oe certain divx final fantasy music video. It all works but in order to play that video I have to use VLC. :) It's alright though.
