My computer keep on experience auto restart and i send a error report to mircosoft and i was being detected that it may cause by hardware problem. I was ask to dl the Windows Memory Diagnostic to run on my com. So i have run a Windows Memory Diagnostic and there is failure. Is that mean my memory is corrupted? Let say if change a new memory which is 256RAM DDR 333 Ram, will the data in my C:/D: drive will still remain? Maybe any1 could explain to me what function of RAM.Thanks :)

If you switch out the Memory Modules it will NOT effect your hard disks. RAM is its name, random access memory. It stores all the application and background processes that are going on while your using the computer, including the operating system. RAM is directly accessed where as you have say a tape drive which is accessed sequentially. Everything that you use on your computer is stored in ram during system operation. All it basically is everything on the hard drive goes through RAM then to the processor, commonly the path between the memory, processor, and I/O devices is called the front side bus(a.k.a. system bus). After you turn off your computer everything in the RAM goes back to zeros. RAM is very volitile thats why if you dont save what your working on, it is GONE FOR GOOD!
