Windows - no illegal issues^

I have 2 questions:

I have an old Laptop with a WinXp Home Key and I used the key once, can I call Microsoft to re-enable the key for installation ?

And also, can I download a Vista Distro and use my Laptop's key to install it on my desktop?

If either of this is illegal , please post.

Uhm... you cant use an XP key home to enable a vista install. Not to mention, it is illegal to use a windows distro on a different machine other than the one it came with unles you bought it after market.

I am talking about a pc that has been reformatted and is installed freshly where the key doesn't work since it says it has been used too often. I was wondering wether they could reset the "key count".

And ok, I wont do that then, thanks.

I think you are only allowed 3 keys per installation disc, but who knows it could be worth a try to call them.
