Windows not loading

I now have another problem

I went to turn on my computer again after I had shut it down with force (Pressed power button for 6 sec) after my screen went crazy with lines accross it. The mouse was still showing up but nothing else was.

After I turned it off I tried to all I saw was the BIOS screen then when it goes to load windows the screen just goes black. The monitor stays on and doesnt go on stand-by but I cant see anything. And if I press the power button even for a sec. it turns off. The windows loading screen never shows up.

OMG PLEASE HELP :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

A virus or something? New Harddrive?

hmm, thats quite odd, have you tried to boot to safe mode. You might try booting form a cd or something to ensure that the hard drive is still good. If it is windows might be corrupt or something so you could try a repair install.

If you turn it on and see the hard drive listed in the post screen generally you would be looking at a corrupted copy of Windows itself(virus or otherwise). You can press the pause button to freeze the screen when going through the post tests to see that list. If it isn't the drive it could also be the cable needing replacement. I've seen new ones that were worthless at times.

But if you decide on a repair install provided it's not hardware related you may want to review the article seen on that at http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm But this should be a last resort option if the problem is with Windows itself. hopefully it will turn out to be a flaky cable rather then drive failure there. Those are quick and cheap to replace. As far as the Start menu you press the F8 key right after the initial post tests are completing and right before Windows starts to load.

If windows was corrupted, would it even have started before. I was on the comp already. Could it just shut down. I had been on the comp for about 4 days now. although I did reinstalled Windows Yesterday

If you were running Windows normally and suddenly saw this then you know that no virus or spyware infected Windows fast enough to see this. Like AdmnPower pointed out you could have a failed drive. The less likely but cheaper option to see if that is what happened is try a different cable to eitrher rule that out or replace a bad cable. A bad cable can give the appearance if it suddenly becomes useless of a failed drive. But look at the bios screen to see if the drive is listed. If not you know where the problem is. :(

Some part of it is cut off. but the Readeble part says

Channel 0 Master : WDC WD3200YS-01PGB0 21.00M21

It also reads the disk in the actual BIOS

Now what do I DO????  :( :( :( :( :( :(

does it sound normal? bad harddrives whine a little... its definatly your harddrive if you cant repair or reinstall or format your HDD

If you are hearing a definite niose or whine you could easily suspect a failing drive as the problem. The fresh install of Windows rules out a "bug" since that would have wiped the previously installation. Without any sound like a whine and things being nice and quiet you still can't rule out a flaky cable.

Do you have a spare drive kicking around to see how that will run? With nothing important on a spare you could set that up for a day to see if the same problems come up. A bad cable would be spotted fast. A noisey drive means "Failure Emminent". :(

Well I do hear a little whine but if I pick up my case from the front it stop so I just think its the case that is vibrating. I cant even reinstall Windows, although I am going to try again. I dont think its a cable since it shows up in the bios. No, I dont have a spare drive. :(

I can probably buy a cheap one from CompUsa just to test it. I dont know what wrong :(

A noise that stops when you move the case sounds like you are hearing whst you are thinking about a side cover or something else vibrating a little. I mentioned using a spare drive if you had one available to see if the cable is the actual problem. Sometimes a drive can be seen while the cable hampers the access to a drive. Sometimes a drive won't even show at all. The first step now will cost less by trying a new cable.

It would never hurt buying a new drive that was larger and faster however. That would simply be an upgrade. But rushing out for a new drive to find it was a bad cable? It never hurts to spend the $2-3 on a new cable to have the extra onhand. I've seen that enough times. If a new one still sees the same result then you know the drive is... :( D... O... A...!

i had a simular problem to this. i once restarted my com.... the bios screen came up etc etc but on the bit where its meant to say loading xp. the screen went funny with all these pink lines across the screen but the mouse was showing... i couldn't see what i was doing so i turned the com off by the switch and restarted it and worked fine

By switch are you referring to the breaker switch on the rear of the supply? One tip was to recycle a supply by unplugging the ac cord and pressing the power button on the front case to discharge the caps in the supply itself. Once that is done you simply replug the cord back in and fire up the system to see if that helps. You see the most power drawn on the initial startup of any system so that might help.

Well the low cost of a cable gives you an extra to keep onhand and simply now confirms the worst fear. :( Rushing out for a drive to find a bad cable was the actual problem and you would have been pulling hair at this point.

You can look back at the visual distortion seen with lines going across the screen as part the drive failure at work. A simple hard shutdown doesn't take out a drive as a rule. That would have to be seen over a period of time in most cases unless the drive had a defect to begin with. This is probably what you are seeing there. I've seen new drives go in brand new systems. Now you have to replace that one and try to recover what you can from it.

Im reformating a partition on the new HDD that I just got this morning. Luckily like you said I dont really have that much on the other one. I just had a 2 hour download, msn, xfire, Windows and thats about it. So its not as bad. Hopefully it works with the new harddrive. I am going to get a RMA on newegg if it does :D

If you just bought the old drive you are better off going that route quickly before the 30day or whatever time limit is up. On some stuff you don't get that option at newegg. The best return policy is seen surprisingly at mwave where they will work with you faster. I used to go back and forth between them and TigerDirect due to price wars there offten enough. One would have this cheaper while the other would have something else seen lower. Newegg offers a better weed oot to reduce down to fewer items as well as some good price savings there often enough.

Hopefully the drive will turn out to be the only thing found bad there. But keep that extra cable onhand anyways. You never know when you may need it for some reason. :D When putting the new case together here the stupid floppy cables were suddenly found no good. argh! :( A local repair shop had a few to save the day there. The office supply, Circuit City, and even Walmart had abandoned internal ide type floppy drives and cables while pushing the usb type only now.

:D I went around to about 4 stores to look for the cheapest drive I could find. Some didnt even have SATA drives maybe like they dont have IDE Floppy cables. I installed it a second later after buying it from CompUsa (Cost: $139 with Instant Savings of 30 = $109 - $50 mail-in rebate.)

I installed Windows and it worked fine. It was afterall the HDD. Hopefully it was only that. ;)

Thanks Computer Forum, especially PCeye

Well I can only hope you are set there with the replacement. Circuit City generally has ide drives onhand as one place. But ordering from a vendor like newegg, mwave, or TigerDirect can save you a bundle at times there. If an online vendor runs a clearance that's an even bigger save!

When the current second 250gb was gone here on the last build Circuit City just happened to have another WD 250gb ide drive onhand "for their price". ouch! Hope the new one lasts for you.
