I have 2 old Sony Vaio computers, both compatible with a ram stick I bought but for one of them Windows only recognizes 448 Mo and that's the one I need the stick for...
I know that this comp had a lot registry modifs which seem to make it work faster so I don't want to format it but can it be that Windows was set to only recognize ~ 512 Mo ?
Or is it sthg to set in the BIOS ?

Thanks for any help.

Give us the model numbers of the laptops so we can verify how much memory each one can support.

The PCG-FR285M will only recognize 512mb sticks, nothing larger. You will need to get 2-512mb sticks in order to get 1gb of memory total.

Technically the other one should only recognize up to 512mb sticks as well. Don't know why it does recognize the 1gb stick. Bios update perhaps?

Yeah actually the BIOS version of the GRZ615S is higher.
I'll see if I can update the other one.

Thanks for your help!
